As powerful and energetic as ever, 78-year old director Seijun Suzuki creates a stunningly lurid extreme tale of a woman assassin's (portrayed by new sensation Makiko Esumi) surreal rise in the criminal underworld.

Number 3-ranked hitwoman Miyuki (Makiko Esumi) has become one of the most gifted stars in the professional assassins' guild, and she has recently terminated her competition, the wheelchair-bound Number 4, "The Teacher," and Number 5, "Dr. Painless."

Yet as she moves further up the ranks, Miyuki - now often accompanied by a little girl killer-in-training - finds herself threatened by unknown rivals intent on her elimination.

The film evolves through an increasingly fantastic series of vividly composed tableaux that resemble paintings which come to life. A dynamically cinematic experience, Suzuki's bold film is driven by bizarre crime set pieces and a dream-like rhythm.
